About RestaurantTech Compare

What RestaurantTech Compare is, who it's for and how we work: the same template for every vendor, a source and date on every data point, and a public methodology.

What we are

RestaurantTech Compare is a free comparison site for restaurant owners in the US, in English and Spanish. We start with point-of-sale (POS) systems. Online ordering, payroll and card processing will follow, one category at a time.

We built it for the person who signs the contract: the full-service restaurant, the taquería, the coffee shop, the bar, the food truck and the group with a few locations. And especially for owners who would rather read the contract in Spanish.

Why it exists

Every vendor builds its quote differently; we put all of them on the same rows.Vendor A: A monthly price. Hardware and card rates on another page. Vendor B: Nothing upfront. The term is in the agreement you sign. Vendor C: Quote only. Fees after a sales call. Same rows: Software, Hardware, Card processing, Fixed fees, Contract and exit. In this example, the Software row of Vendor C reads "Quote only" and the Card processing row of Vendor B reads "Not published". Every other cell has a source and a date. Illustration: the three vendors are examples, not real companies.

Every vendor builds its quote differently

  • Vendor A: A monthly price. Hardware and card rates on another page.
  • Vendor B: Nothing upfront. The term is in the agreement you sign.
  • Vendor C: Quote only. Fees after a sales call.

We do that work once, in the open, for every vendor

Same rows: Software, Hardware, Card processing, Fixed fees, Contract and exit.

In this example, the Software row of Vendor C reads "Quote only" and the Card processing row of Vendor B reads "Not published". Every other cell has a source and a date.

  • A source and a date on every data point.
  • "Not published" or "Quote only". Never zero.

Choosing a POS well takes work. The price is split across software, hardware, card processing and fees. Contracts can run for years, and the cost of leaving early is rarely on the pricing page. Every vendor builds its quote differently, so quotes are hard to compare.

We do that work once, in the open, for every vendor.

How we work

How we work: six rules, the same for every vendor. The same template for everyone. Same template, same contract template, same scoring rules. A source and a date on every data point. Each one links to its source and shows when we verified it. Missing means missing. "Not published" or "Quote only". Never zero. The score sets the order. A public methodology. No company can pay for a better position. Spanish written for you. For Hispanic restaurant owners in the US. Not machine translations. Corrections in the open. Anyone can send one with evidence, vendors included. No vendor gets special treatment, for or against. How we workENSoftwareHardwareFixed feesContract and exitCard processingNot publishedES$ / moSourceDateRTC$01020304050601The same template for everyone.Same template, same contracttemplate, same scoring rules.02A source and a dateon every data point. Each one links to its sourceand shows when we verified it.03Missing means missing."Not published" or "Quote only". • The same template for everyone. We measure every vendor with the same template, the same contract template and the same scoring rules. No vendor gets special treatment, for or against.
  • A source and a date on every data point. We use vendors' own pricing pages and terms, contracts, court records and other public records. Each data point links to its source and shows when we last verified it.
  • Missing means missing. If a vendor doesn't publish a price or a fee, we show "Not published" or "Quote only". We never show it as zero.
  • The score sets the order. Rankings come from a public methodology, with its weights, version and every change published. No company can pay for a better position.
  • Spanish written for you. Our Spanish pages are written for Hispanic restaurant owners in the US, and a Spanish page stays out of search results until a person reviews it. They are not machine translations.
  • Corrections in the open. Anyone can send us a correction with evidence, vendors included. Our editorial policy explains how we handle them.

What we are not

  • We don't hide who makes money. Price requests for one product go to a company with the same owners as this site, and how we make money says which one.
  • We don't sell rankings, placements or reviews.
  • We don't ask for your contact details to show you results. If you request a price, your details go only to the company named in the form, with your consent.

Who we are

RestaurantTech Compare is a young company focused on one thing: the technology restaurants buy. To see how the site is funded, read how we make money.
