With dual pricing, a surcharge or a cash discount program, your customers pay the card cost on the cards the program covers, and those cost your restaurant $0 (a surcharge only covers credit cards). This column shows what your customers pay. It's never added to your cost. Card network rules and state laws apply, and some states limit surcharges.

Review your result with a specialist

Go over these numbers with a person and get a real quote for your restaurant.

Estimates from published prices and contracts. Your quote can differ; check it before you sign.

Estimates based on the prices and contracts in our catalog (each vendor's own site unless the source says otherwise) and our reference assumptions. Prices you can only get with a quote are flagged, never counted as $0.

The monthly price is only part of what a POS costs. This calculator estimates the total over 36 months for a restaurant like yours, using the prices, fees and contract terms each vendor publishes.

Enter your monthly card sales, your average ticket and how many devices and locations you need. The calculator adds up:

  • software for your devices and locations;
  • hardware, bought or financed;
  • card processing, based on your sales and your number of transactions;
  • fixed fees, like annual, per-device or compliance fees;
  • the early termination fee, if you pick a month to leave.

When a vendor publishes a dual pricing, surcharge or cash discount program, the calculator uses it by default: card processing costs your restaurant nothing, and what your customers pay shows up in a separate column. It never counts toward your total, and it isn't free: your customers pay it. Turn off "Use dual pricing when the vendor offers it" to see the regular card rates. Card network rules and state laws apply, and some states limit surcharges.

If a vendor runs a promotion, like a signing bonus or paying off your current contract, the calculator shows it apart, under the total. When your numbers meet its conditions, you see the total with and without it. When they don't, it says why. Promotions are temporary, so they never change the order of the results here. The RTC Score counts them on their own, through the switching bonus, and only for our reference restaurant.

When a vendor doesn't publish part of its pricing, you'll see a range or an "incomplete" label instead of an exact number. Our assumptions, like the estimated interchange cost for card processing, are shown next to the results.

This is an estimate, not a quote. Use it to compare vendors and to ask better questions. Your final cost depends on the quote and the contract you sign.
