Online ordering review

Popmenu

A restaurant website and marketing platform, from $179 a month on monthly billing (Starter), where online ordering is an add-on with an unpublished price and each online order costs $1.00, paid by you or passed to your customer. Payments go through your own processor. You can't cancel during a minimum commitment set in your subscription agreement, and the agreement then renews for a year unless you give 30 days' written notice.

We've verified 8 of 13 key facts for this ordering platform. Until we reach 80%, this page shows what we have, with sources, and it isn't a full review.

Our verdict

Popmenu is mainly a website and marketing platform with online ordering sold apart. We can't score it, and our 12-month cost for the reference restaurant can't be computed from public numbers, because the online ordering add-on, card processing and the length of the minimum commitment aren't published. Ask for the full price with ordering included and the length of the commitment in writing before signing.

What we like

  • No commission on your online orders: a flat $1.00 per order, which you can pass to your customer.
  • Every plan includes an SEO website, Google Business Profile sync, guest contact collection and automated email marketing.
  • Orders go into Toast, Square, Clover, SpotOn and other POS systems, and DoorDash drivers can deliver them.
  • The terms let you export your guests' contact data (email, phone, name) as CSV files at any time during the agreement.

What to watch

  • Online ordering is an add-on whose price isn't published, so the real monthly cost needs a quote.
  • You can't cancel during a minimum commitment whose length is set in your subscription agreement, not published; leaving early makes the fees of that period due, and the agreement then renews for a year unless you give 30 days' written notice.
  • Fees aren't refunded, the subscription starts when you sign whatever your go-live date, and Popmenu doesn't handle chargebacks or publish its support hours.
  • Its pricing table lists loyalty, offers and text messages from the Essentials plan ($299 a month).

Contract and exit
Data pointValue
Contract termNot publishedSource: Popmenu (opens in a new tab)The minimum commitment is set in each subscription agreement and Popmenu doesn't publish its length; its pricing page says an annual plan locks in a 10% discount for 12 months. A trial that turns into a paid plan has no minimum commitment.
Automatic renewal12 monthsSource: Popmenu (opens in a new tab)One-year renewals unless your subscription agreement says otherwise; if it rules out automatic renewal, it continues until either side gives 30 days' written notice.

Notice to cancel30 daysSource: Popmenu (opens in a new tab)Written notice at least 30 days before the end of the current term. During the minimum commitment period you can't cancel (except for Popmenu's uncured breach or insolvency).
Cancellation feeYou can't cancel during the minimum commitment period (except for Popmenu's uncured breach or insolvency); trying to makes the unpaid fees of that whole period due at once. After it, you give 30 days' written notice before the end of the term, and fees already paid aren't refunded.Source: Popmenu (opens in a new tab)
How the cancellation fee worksThe fees left in the termSource: Popmenu (opens in a new tab)Leaving during the minimum commitment period makes the unpaid fees of the whole period due at once. The length of that period is set in your subscription agreement.
Refund when you cancelNo refundsSource: Popmenu (opens in a new tab)Service continues to the end of the period already paid. Only if you end the agreement for Popmenu's uncured material breach do you get a prorated refund of prepaid fees.
Right to raise pricesAfter the minimum commitment period, or in a renewal, Popmenu may raise its fees, including the per-order fee, to its current rate card with 60 days' written notice.
