Cost to get started

The cash your restaurant puts in before it opens on the new POS, in our reference scenario ($30k/month in card sales, $35 average ticket, 2 terminals, 1 location, 36 months): equipment you buy up front plus one-time setup or installation fees. Same rows for every POS.

25% of the RTC Score

Terminals, upfront: Complete Solution (promotional price) (×2)$798
Total to get started$798

Left out and why

  • The vendor doesn't publish the price of a terminal on its own, so each additional terminal is priced like the starter kit (this may overstate hardware).
  • Monthly and yearly charges (rent, software, yearly fees per device) are part of the 36-month cost, not of the entry cost.

Switching or signing bonus

What the vendor's current promotions are worth to our reference restaurant ($30k/month in card sales, $35 average ticket, 2 terminals, 1 location, 36 months), an established restaurant switching from another company's POS.

25% of the RTC Score

Counted in the RTC Score

$0

No current switching or signing promotion. It counts $0.

Promotions end and change, so we re-check them: one with no end date comes down if we can't re-check it within 30 days, and an expired one stops counting the day after it ends.

Hardware warranty

The same rows for every POS: how long the main terminal is covered against defects when you get it a standard way (buying, leasing, renting, a subscription or a loan), the conditions, including what it leaves out and what keeping it costs, and the price to replace that terminal outside the coverage.

Hardware warranty included1 yearSource: Epos Now (opens in a new tab)Twelve months on new hardware made by Epos Now; refurbished units get 90 days, or 12 months if sold as "like new". The terms the US site links to date from 2021.
Warranty conditionsThe standard warranty is return to base: you report the fault in writing and ship the unit to Epos Now at your cost, and it checks it within 28 days. After the first 30 days it may repair with refurbished parts, and a replacement keeps the warranty time left, with a 30-day minimum. Not covered: accidents, drops, spills, power surges, natural disasters, misuse, neglect, third-party hardware and broken warranty seals. Advance replacement ("Swap It") needs a paid Support Plan and is US-only: the replacement normally ships within 2 working days with a return label, and the failed unit must go back within 10 working days; if it still hasn't arrived 10 working days later, Epos Now may invoice the replacement or suspend service. Paid options: an extended warranty of up to 3 years from delivery, bought in the first 12 months (price not published), and the ProtectNow Care Plan, a 36-month contract per solution that renews automatically and costs the remaining balance to leave early; it covers 2 accidental-damage claims every 36 months on PRO-range products, with a $99 charge per replacement, and the terms cite $18 per solution when a customer is moved onto it by default.Source: Epos Now (opens in a new tab)
Price to replace the main terminalNot publishedSee my price for Epos Now (opens the provider's site in a new tab)Source: Epos Now (opens in a new tab)No published replacement price: the Countertop 2 terminal is only sold inside the Complete Solution sign-up bundle (terminal, card reader, printer and onboarding), shown as worth $1,099 and sold at $399 with an $84 monthly subscription under countdown offers, and for a unit outside the warranty Epos Now quotes a repair or replacement instead of a price. A sign-up bundle with onboarding and a new subscription is not a replacement price, for any vendor.

The RTC Score only counts how long defects are covered. What the coverage leaves out (accidents, theft, loss) and what it costs to keep are in the conditions. A protection plan sold separately doesn't count; if the vendor offers one, it's in the conditions. The replacement price isn't added to the 36-month cost, because there's no public data on how often equipment fails.

Trial or money-back period

Whether you can try the POS and leave, and what it costs you if you do. Same rows for every POS.

Trial or money-back periodNone publishedSource: Epos Now (opens in a new tab)

Trial conditionsNo trial: Epos Now offers a guided demo. Its US terms say the software license fee and system sales are non-refundable.Source: Epos Now (opens in a new tab)

In the RTC Score the trial is part of the contract block, the lowest weight in the model: full points when you can try it with no software charges or get your money back, half when you can cancel without the early termination fee but the charges during the trial are yours.
