Our verdict

Published flat card rates, but the contract depends on who sells it to you. Ask that provider for the term and the early termination amount in writing.

What we like

  • Publishes its card rates on its own site, 2.3% + 10¢ in person on its restaurant bundles.
  • Restaurant bundles include online ordering with no per-order fee.
  • With a hardware subscription, defects, accidental damage, theft and loss are covered for as long as the subscription runs, including its month-to-month extension; for Station Solo that subscription costs $1,406.80 more over 36 months than buying it. Hardware bought outright has one year against defects.

What to watch

  • The hardware only works with Clover processing.
  • The hardware promotion requires a 3-year contract, hardware subscriptions can't be canceled, and the early termination fee depends on the bank or reseller.

The cash your restaurant puts in before it opens on the new POS, in our reference scenario ($30k/month in card sales, $35 average ticket, 2 terminals, 1 location, 36 months): equipment you buy up front plus one-time setup or installation fees. Same rows for every POS.

    Conditions
A $450 statement credit for new merchants who have never had a Clover account or processed with First Data. You must apply online at clover.com, buy a Clover hardware or software subscription that includes a Flex, Flex Pocket, Mini, Station Solo or Station Duo, be credit approved by January 31, 2027, submit a batch of at least $25 within 30 days of approval and process at least $10,000 in card sales within the first four billing cycles. It requires a 3-year contract, there is one per business relationship, it cannot be combined with other offers, and Clover decides who qualifies and can change it without notice. It is a credit for new merchants, not a payment of your current provider's early termination fee.
    What you need to qualify
    • An average of at least $2,500 a month in card sales over the first 4 months
    Valid until

Counts in the RTC Score only if our reference restaurant qualifies.

The switching or signing incentive is one of the criteria with the most weight in the RTC Score. We count a promotion only while it's current, with a fixed published amount and conditions our reference restaurant meets. "Up to" amounts, buyouts of your current contract and unpublished amounts don't count. The cost calculator subtracts one only when your numbers qualify.

Hardware warranty

The same rows for every POS: how long the main terminal is covered against defects when you get it a standard way (buying, leasing, renting, a subscription or a loan), the conditions, including what it leaves out and what keeping it costs, and the price to replace that terminal outside the coverage.

Hardware warranty includedLifetime, while your agreement is activeSource: Clover (opens in a new tab)Only with a Clover hardware subscription, for as long as the subscription runs: 36 months for Station Solo, then month to month at the same charge unless you buy or return the equipment, and Clover says the coverage lasts the life of the subscription contract. That is the same rule we apply to every vendor whose coverage lasts while you keep the agreement that carries it. The subscription costs more than buying the hardware (see the conditions). Hardware bought outright has a one-year warranty against manufacturer defects.
Warranty conditionsBought outright, Clover hardware has a one-year limited warranty against manufacturer defects. With a hardware subscription (36 months for Station Solo, non-cancelable and non-refundable, though you can pay it off or upgrade), Clover's Equipment Protection Program covers defects and accidental damage, and theft and loss, for the life of the subscription contract. Clover publishes no terms for that program (deductibles, replacement limits, exclusions) and says to contact it; it is not offered in New York or Oregon, where an extended warranty applies instead. If you don't tell Clover 30 days before the end whether you will buy or return the equipment, the subscription continues month to month at the same charge. For Station Solo on the Restaurant Growth plan, the subscription costs $179 a month for 36 months ($6,444) against $1,799 up front plus $89.95 a month ($5,037.20): $1,406.80 more, with this protection and the financing included. For bought hardware, Clover Care is a paid add-on: 3 years from shipment, up to 3 replacements, cracked screens, dust and liquid damage included (only manufacturer defects in New York), and no theft, loss or fire. Clover.com publishes no price for it. These are Clover.com terms; banks and resellers that sell Clover may set different ones.Source: Clover (opens in a new tab)
Price to replace the main terminal$1,799 one-timeSource: Clover (opens in a new tab)Includes the cash drawer and receipt printer: Clover sells Station Solo only with them. Bought outright on Clover.com; the hardware price is the same with any software plan. Clover says these prices are only for Clover.com, so a bank or reseller may charge differently.

The RTC Score only counts how long defects are covered. What the coverage leaves out (accidents, theft, loss) and what it costs to keep are in the conditions. A protection plan sold separately doesn't count; if the vendor offers one, it's in the conditions. The replacement price isn't added to the 36-month cost, because there's no public data on how often equipment fails.

Trial or money-back period

Whether you can try the POS and leave, and what it costs you if you do. Same rows for every POS.

Trial or money-back periodNone publishedSource: Clover (opens in a new tab)Clover's 90-day trial (March 5 to December 31, 2026) covers the Essentials and Services Growth plans, for selected business types. Every restaurant package uses the Restaurant Growth plan, which it doesn't cover, so no trial is published for the restaurant POS.
Trial periodN/ASource: Clover (opens in a new tab)Clover publishes no trial for its restaurant plans.
Charges during the trialN/ASource: Clover (opens in a new tab)Clover publishes no trial for its restaurant plans.
Trial conditionsNo trial is published for the restaurant plans. Hardware subscriptions can't be canceled or refunded, and returns and termination fees depend on the provider that sells you Clover.Source: Clover (opens in a new tab)

In the RTC Score the trial is part of the contract block, the lowest weight in the model: full points when you can try it with no software charges or get your money back, half when you can cancel without the early termination fee but the charges during the trial are yours.

How the early termination fee is calculatedQuote onlySource: Clover (opens in a new tab)Clover says the early termination fee varies by provider, and current offers show how far apart they are: Wells Fargo says no early termination fees or long-term contracts apply to its card processing for Clover, a bank's offer on Clover's partner site says early termination fees apply, and Clover's own hardware promotion requires a 3-year contract. In a CardConnect agreement filed in court in 2021 the fee was a fixed amount written in the application. Clover publishes no agreement with the formula.

Exclusive processing commitmentYesSource: Clover (opens in a new tab)Clover devices only work with Fiserv's processing, and Clover's partner site says using Clover requires a merchant processing agreement with First Data Merchant Services (Fiserv). You can choose among banks and resellers in Fiserv's network, but not another processor, for as long as you use the equipment.
